Video Interview on Latest Victories & Future Plans

Boxing runs in the Molina family.

Patriarch Miguel Molina used to fight and three of his sons currently lace up.

“We have three older brothers but they don’t fight anymore,” Javier “El Intocable” Molina (10-1, 4 KOs) and Carlos Molina (15-0-1, 7 KOs) mention during my visit with the guys at a recent amateur show. The third fighting brother who does fight is Oscar Molina (Javier’s twin). Oscar will be competing with the Mexican Olympic Team for a spot at the 2012 London Games, and he will be in the Brazil qualifiers in May. The Molina twins were also the stars of the hit “Born and Bred” documentary directed by Justin Frimmer.

Javier, a 2008 Olympian, and Carlos, an unbeaten junior welterweight, were at the amateur boxing event to cheer on another relative–their cousin Danny Ramirez, who is a talented amateur. Javier had just fought that same weekend but rushed back to town to catch his cousin in the ring. They all grew up together–and all fought together.

And the Molina camp have had a busy couple of months lately with welterweight Javier’s January 20 victory over the tough Alberto Herrera at the Palms Casino in Vegas and Carlos’ win over veteran Manuel Leyva in December at the Honda Center in Anaheim (on the Abner Mares–Joseph Agbeko undercard).

So is there any sibling rivalry between Javi, 22, and Carlos, 26?

Since they grew up in a family of six boys, it’s safe to say Team Molina may have settled some childhood spats with their fists.

But with three prizefighters in the fam, the family is very close and very supportive. They take pride in carrying on their family’s history of boxing; Carlos proudly sports a large “Molina” tattoo on his arm.

The punching pair even share a trainer in Clemente Medina, who coaches out of the Maywood Boxing Gym. Welterweight Javier is promoted by Goossen Tutor and managed by Arnulfo Bravo and older bro Carlos is repped by Golden Boy.

“So who hits the hardest out of the three of you?” I ask the bash brothers.

“I do!” Carlos quickly counters, “‘cuz I’m the oldest!”

As Javier laughs, the guys take time to thank their hometown, the City of Norwalk, and fans all around for their support and promise to keep training hard to do their best in the ring.
