Light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins has made history before at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and now he is going back to try to make some more in the first defense of his second 175-pound title reign.

Golden Boy promoter Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com on Thursday that Hopkins’ Oct. 15 defense against former titleholder and mandatory challenger Chad Dawson (30-1, 17 KOs), a fight that has been set for more than a month, is headed for the Staples Center.

The fight will headline an HBO PPV card. Schaefer and Gary Shaw, Dawson’s promoter, have been working on the undercard.

One of the supporting bouts has been agreed to, Schaefer said. Golden Boy fighter Jorge Linares will face Antonio DeMarco, who is promoted by Shaw, for the lightweight title recently vacated by Humberto Soto.

  1. Mayweather at 7 to 1? Does anyone else think that is way too much? How do you see the fight going? Ortiz seems like a different fighter now, more focused,I think he will hurt Mayweather bad if he lands on him. The trick is to land on him!, but I still think the odds are way out of line.

  2. @ Melvin, lol its all good my brother :-). I dont take things as personal as it may seem, but I do tend to wear my heart on my sleave, which isnt always a good thing I admit. I do get it right sometimes though lol.

  3. Watch it on the internet for free!!!
Forget putting money in all of these promoters pockets!

the only thing I see that looks worth paying for might be Ortiz vs Mayweather, but then again, it will probably have a lame undercard!!

  4. @ jay ur craZy bro! Lol! But true 4 once in all since all it past comments.” lol! Just busting ur chops Bro.” 🙂

  5. Hopkins vs Dawson is a good fight, but I dont think its ppv material. Not even 50 never mind 60$, they keep trying to make these fights more expensive and the under cards are as lame as ever. These promoters have to work harder to put together better fights. It takes way to long to get the best to fight the best and when they do fight you get charged an arm a leg and a left nut too.

  6. This undercard better be stacked if the expect to try to sell this for $60, if not I see this ppv as a bust Dawson can’t sell and Hopkins name alone can’t make this ppv an attraction
