Edwin Valero Would Have Kicked Pacquiao’s Ass

I still can’t get over the fact that Manny Pacquiao’s next fight will be with Shane Mosley. I have nothing against Mosley but his last two fights were not enough to award him with a mega fight. Mosley looked like an old man in his past two fights. He is 39 and couldn’t pull the trigger against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an embarrassingly one-sided decision loss in their May fight.

Mosley did hurt Mayweather in the second round but that was the only excitement there was because he never threw or landed another meaningful punch the rest of the fight. The fight with Sergio Mora was the most embarrassing fight ever. A draw and awful fight gets you a fight against the most popular fighter in the world? How is that possible?

I know Mosley is the most recognized name for the casual fan, even if they don’t realize he is not the same Shane Mosley of just a few years ago.

If only Edwin Valero was still alive. I honestly think he will have beaten Pacquaio. Edwin Valero passed away as the WBC lightweight champion with 26 wins and 26 knockouts. This guy was a KO artist without a doubt, 18 of those knockouts were in the first round.

Valero was the type of guy who didn’t care about money, he would have fought anyone, anywhere. Antonio DeMarco was the last guy to face the Venezuelan. When I got the news DeMarco will be fighting Edwin Valero in Monterey, MX, I was a bit nervous for the kid. After 9 brutal rounds DeMarco quit on his stool.

On April 18, 2010 Valero was arrested for the murder of his 24-year-old wife. The following day he was found dead in his prison cell at 1:30AM with a picture of his family in his mouth having hanged himself using the denim pants he was wearing.

If only he was alive!

  1. Valero was a tough guy and a good fighter. But I dont think he would have been able to beat manny. If for no other reason valeros lack of defence would have been his down fall against manny. Edwin was a good strong puncher and he could put together great combos at times, but he kept his hands to low. You have to also remember that Edwin had not been tested against the elite. By no meens am I saying that he couldnt hold his own against the best, but the fact is that it wasnt proven at that point in his career.God bless his soul.

  2. All I know regardless of who would have won one thing for sure this would have been a big fire fight with both of their styles it would have been a thriller for however long it would have lasted. R.I.P. Valero, hoping lil bro is at least a slight shadow of Edwin.

  3. no way…. think about it he would of done nothing to de la hoya. cotto. or margarito. paquiao was way to much for valero and valero was a little small i dont know why he as fighting at that weight. sorry edwin rip but 0% cahance against paquiao

  4. I think if Valero would have fought a few more big names, and got some more boxing skills… He might have had a chance … Valero was like a pitbull in the ring….I became a Valero fan after his fight with Demarco…he showed balls in that fight…….R.I.P. Edwin Valero

  5. Edwin Valero had the potential to be something great. Maybe if he would’ve beaten Soto then Marquez he would’ve had a good chance against Manny. I like Manny & Valero but I like Valero more. Now we can root for Luis Valero his younger brother 3-0 all KO in the 1st round :). R.I.P Edwin El Inca Valero & Wife

  6. Yes you’re all correct. Valero may have the power but to KO Manny without the skill and speed will be a 0% chance of achieving it. If he could get passed on Amir Khan or JMM with a WIN i guess he would be a worthy opponent for Manny. But it’ll all be a dream for us boxing fans.

May your soul (Edwin Valero) be in peace.

  7. i agree with tornado. not to take anything away from valero but he didnt face anybody with a name. he was still an up and comer. manny was to quick and strong for valero. this would of been stopped in mid way.

  8. Edwin was a real good fighter with a lot of upside but I don’t think he was ready for Manny.
It might have been a 8, 9 or 10 round fight of the year candidate with Manny KOing him in the end.

    Rest in Peace Valero!

  9. No disrespect to Edwin espicaly cause he is not with us. But he had no skills to face a fighter like Manny. He had not even half the skills of anyone who has fought Manny. All his fight were againt lesser opposition. Yes he had power but no skills nor speed, Manny would have punished Edwin.
