Giovanni Segura (25-1, 21 KOs) scored a punishing eighth round KO over previously unbeaten WBO mini-flyweight Iván Calderón (34-1-1, 6 KOs) to unify the 108lb championship on Saturday night at the Coliseo Mario “Quijote” Morales in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Calderon boxed beautifully early on, but Segura turned the tide and had him in trouble in rounds five and six. Calderon weathered some difficult moments, and regained his form in the seventh. Segura, however, continued to pressure the 35-year-old ring legend and floored him for the count with a devastating liver shot in round eight. Time was 1:34.

  1. 6 years plus is good enough. every champ has there they and especially if they fight everybody and anybody. good job segura CALDERON palante que estamos pa ti….

  2. Champions are champions but you’re not gonna be fighting forever. A new breed of talents will emerge and this is one of the events where the one on top was defeated and destroyed.

  3. Who was the ref anyway ?? He missed the knockdown in the corner after Calderon got hit about 4-5 times. Also, later in the fight, Calderon was knocked down again. Segura was sent to a neutral corner after the ref finally decided that their was in fact a knockdown. After all that, he started the count at one. Was the time keeper asleep on the job too ??
This had crooked decision written all over it. Segura HAD to win by knockout.

  4. That’s the problem. He forget to run around. So he got KOed. Or maybe he was already tired of running around, his boxing expertise.
