We should all know by now that Manny Pacquiao will fight Antonio Margarito on Nov. 13 for a vacant super welterweight championship in Monterrey, Mexico. That ends any possibility of a match between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., so let’s get over it, we’re not going to see it in 2010.
So what’s next for Floyd Mayweather? Well, rumor is that Miguel Cotto might be fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. Cotto’s team is scheduling a meeting with Mayweather’s team. Attorney Gabriel Penagaricano, who is Cotto’s adviser, confirmed the meeting but refused to leak any information.
“We have communicated (with Mayweather Jr.). We plan to meet and talk about a little matter that I am not a liberty to discuss,” Penagaricano stated according to reports out of Puerto Rico.
Nothing is official whether Cotto-Mayweather will actually take place. From what it appears, the two are going to discuss co-promoting event. Being that Miguel Cotto vs Floyd Mayweather is a rumor, it’s also a rumor that Cotto might be facing Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17KOs) for the WBA title. It will be Vanes first world title shot and Cotto’s first title defense at 154 pounds.
Bob Arum wants Cotto to fight by the end of the year and may have him lined up in 2011 for a big fight. Cotto has two years remaining on his contract with Top Rank so you know Bob Arum will try to squeeze every dollar he can from Cotto.
As for Floyd Mayweather, he has been on vacation flying on his private jet, flashing his money everywhere he goes.

Yo jesus, I agree with you 100% on that castillo vs mayweather. Castillos career has gone no where sence then, But there was a time when he was a good boxer with potential. Mayweather Vs Cotto, it could be a good fight, I don’t think Cotto is done like some people think,but I do think Cotto is not the same Cotto that fought Mosley and was able to handle his speed.
This time I think Cotto wont be able to handle Mayweather’s speed and accuracy, Mayweather may not have a big KO punch, but speed kills and we all saw how Pacquaio speed started to bother Cotto from the middle of round 2 and throughout the fight.
Regarding Mayweather I’ve always thought he is a super skilled boxer who could go down in history along with the all time greats who fought “Champions on their prime” to become the best there is, but Mayweather chooses otherwise, he cares more about making sure that records reads 0 loses.
I do think he has tremendous talent and speed, and man, it could be beautiful to see him dominate champion after champion, he has the tools to be the greatest of all time if he wanted to.
Mayweather, I think is the only fighter out there at this moment who has what it takes to beat Pacquiao, and that is why they need to fight RIGHT NOW! but instead he chooses the easy road. Go figure..
I’m with you on that, that would be a good fight, both are coming from loses “interestingly so” from the fighters who everyone is expecting to face each other (Mayweather and Mosley).
Cotto Vs Mosley II does make sense.
I would not count Cotto out either,he has had a string of bad luck.first he fights Marg and dominates him for almost the whole fight and all of a sudden his face looks like raw meat because Marg obviously loaded his gloves for that fight.Next he fights Clottey who not only tried to brake his arm at the end of rd.2,but a head but that caused a huge ugly gash,and still fought to win.Then he fights Paquiao at a catchweight,the same Pacquiao who refuses blood testing. I do know that Cotto has fought a lot of good fighters and is not scared to fight.I would however love to see him make his entrance like Tito used to. Amped up to fight.But he gets the job done,and he has nothing to be ashamed of!

Pacquiao wanted 50/50 purse split,his choice of gloves,ring,venue and even 10 million dollar penalty for each Lbs Mayweather was over the limit.Mayweather agreed to all of those demands and asked for random O.S.B.T,and that’s when Pacquiao backed out of the fight.He ended up making alot less fighting Clottey,While Mayweather doubled his PPV #’s against that same 38 year old Mosley.

Typical Mayweather fight someone you know you can beat. Cotto is damaged goods now. He’s still a good fighter but I don’t think he can beat elite fighters. Mayweather has to fight and beat Pacquiao if he wants to be considered one of the GOAT’s.
