“I am not going to retire,” the former world champion Israel Vazquez responded from his home to BoxNoticias.net when asked what his plans were after being defeated at the hands of Rafael Marquez in their 4th fight. Vazquez spoke to his manager, Frank Espinoza, and asked for the fifth fight.

“If Rafa would have beaten me badly and I would have looked really bad, I would have announced my retirement,” Vazquez, who in the meantime has kept busy as a TV color commentator for

Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo”, stated. “THat wasn’t the case, my problem are my brows. That is something that has a solution and I am going to fix it.”

Vazquez is under contract for the next three months by Telefutura to do color commentary on their Friday night series and has decided that after that obligation is over, he will be back in the gym and in the hands of specialists for surgeries on his brows.

“I feel well physically and mentally,” Vazquez added. “I want the fifth fight with Marquez because we need the tie breaker. I think I will be ready in 2011, I need to get operated on and then I need two or three more fights before I challenge Marquez again.”

When asked that if the surgery specialist would recommend for him to retire instead of going under the knife, Vasquez responded, “maybe. I think my brows can be fixed with surgery and for them to be perfect so I can continue fighting.”
