WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-0, 22 KOs) scored a ninth round TKO over 38-year-old former champ John Ruiz (44-9-1, 30 KOs) on Saturday night at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England.

Ruiz was dropped twice in the opening bell. Haye floored Ruiz again at the end of round five and again early in round six. Ruiz’ corner finally threw in the towel to stop the punishment in round nine. Time was 2:01. All Photos by Michael Steele/Getty Images

  1. What’s Ruiz still doing fighting ? I guess if his old nemesis Holyfield is still fighting, why not ? Goes to show you what our heavyweight division looks like. Kinda like when Rocky Marciano retired.

  2. Big props to Ruiz, he took huge shots and kept trying and landed a few big ones too, none of the usual Ruiz clinching, a decent fight for heavyweights.
David Haye look good, then again we have to remember this he looked good against 38 year old John Ruiz, still I think he brings a bit of excitement to a heavyweight devision that is dying for it.

Now, what the hell was wrong with this referee, after the 1rst knockdown, if I remember right all of the later knockdown came from punches behind the head, big punches I have to say, the ref didn’t even warned Haye, even after Ruiz was complaining and it was clear the ref was right in front of them when it happen.

But anyways, Haye does look good as a heavyweight, at least when you compare him against what we’ve seen lately, only thing I don’t like about him is his big mouth, I hope he doesn’t wait till Vitali is 40 years old to fight him, Haye should go after Wladimir Klitschko and then we’ll see who is who, that’s the real heavyweight fight to make and the fight that might make people turn their attention back to a once great division who begs for someone that is able to entertain us again.

Hope Haye doesn’t go after Bernard Hopkins lol, because I will loose respect for Haye…….Again (after Haye pulled out of the fight with Wladimir Klitschko after insulting both of them)
