Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will leave his native Culiacan, MX, this upcoming Tuesday to fly to Los Angeles, CA, where he will commence training with the four time Manager of the Year Freddie Roach at the latter’s gym, the Wild Card, located in Santa Monica, CA.

After a series of talks with Bob Arum, who promotes Chavez Jr., J.C. was finally convinced to leave is hometown of Culiacan and to travel north and work with Roach.

“The decision has been made, it took a while but all is ready now to travel to Los Angeles and to start working with Roach and his team,” Chavez Jr. stated.

The 24 year old Chavez Jr. knows that after being suspended for using a banned diuretic in his last bout in November of last year, his return in June must be convincing and that is one of the reasons he accepted working with who is considered the best trainer of his era.

“I know that he is a quality trainer, there is are reason why he has been named the trainer of the year four times,” Chavez Jr. said. “I don’t think it is just because of Pacquiao. I think that along with making you work hard, Roach is the type of trainer that can bring out the best of you and I have no doubt he will do that for my return to the ring in Texas.”

Chavez Jr. will be facing John Duddy of Ireland on June 26th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.

  1. I really hope Freddie can get this kid back on track. He has no business fighting at middleweight or heavier.
