Former WBC lightweight champion David Diaz of Chicago, IL, will be the next opponent for current WBC super featherweight champion Humberto “Zorrita” Soto on March 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. No title will be on the line.

The proposed bout will be on the undercard of either Pacquaio-Mayweather or which ever opponent Pacquiao faces on March 13 or the 20th.

“Zorrita” and his manager Antonio “Cañas” Lozada mentioned that they will assisting the WBC lightweight title bout between Edwin Valero and Antonio DeMarco since Humberto will be next in line to challenge the winner.

The reality of Soto possibly facing DeMarco should the current WBC interim lightweight champion should win his challenge of the full fledged title holder Valero remains to be seen since both fighters are trained by the same family, the Quirarte’s of Tijuana, MX.

David Diaz holds a ledger of 35-2-1, 17KO and like Soto, Diaz is coming off a win over the former lightweight champion Jesus “Matador” Chavez.

Diaz was crowned the WBC lightweight champion on August 12th, 2006 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV, when he knocked out Jose Armando Santa Cruz in the tenth round. Diaz lost the title to Manny Pacquiao.
