Australian titleholder Danny Green (28-3, 25 KOs) scored a major upset after defeating jones2four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr (54-6, 40 KOs) of the US in a IBO cruiserweight World Title bout in Sydney on December 2, 2009.

The referee Howard Foster crowned Green at 2:02 of round 1. Jones was in no condition to defend himself. Jones congratulated Green on his victory. Green’s devastating win likely torpedoed Jones’ planned rematch with Bernard Hopkins, who fights Enrique Ornelas tonight in Philadelphia. Maybe the door is now open for Green to face Hopkins.

Note to Roy Jones Jr: we know you were looking for a payday now retire.

  1. Totally agree Mr Brown..Being in Ausralia..I watched as every Boxing writer had Roy Jones winning by decision..What happened was the saddest spectacle that I have ever seen..The even sadder thing is that Roy Jones would have wiped the floor with Danny (MEDIOCRE) Green in his prime..I have said many times that I would have liked Roy Jones to retire a long time ago..after his brutal K.O. losses to Tarver and Johnson..He has now said in Australia after his loss that he would retire..Please Roy retire so we can remember the truly great fighter you were…….Rosco..Perth

  2. Embarrassing!!!
Its sad too see this, Roy Jones please leave the ring alone with the dignity that you still have. That Referee literally saved your life, their is nothing too prove anymore you’ve already accomplished and achieve so much why punish your self.
