Unbeaten in 13 pro fights, junior welterweight prospect Mauricio Herrera has paid his dues and earned accolades from boxing insiders as having the potential to one day rule the division. On Friday, December 4th, Herrera will take the next step towards that goal when he faces his most formidable foe to date – former world champion Mike Anchondo – in the eight round co-main event of ShoBox: The New Generation at the Chumash Resort Casino in Santa Ynez, California live on Showtime at 11pm ET / PT (delayed for the West Coast)

mauricio boxerIn the main event, junior middleweight knockout artist Tyrone Brunson (20-0-1, 19 KOs) takes on Carson Jones (23-7-1, 14 KOs) in a ten round bout presented by Gary Shaw Productions. The Herrera vs Anchondo bout is presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions.

A late bloomer, Riverside, California’s Mauricio “El Maestro” Herrera (13-0, 6 KOs) may have gotten a late start in the pro game in 2007 at the age of 27, but he has made up for lost time quickly with six fights in 2008 and five bouts thus far in 2009. Included on Herrera’s resume are wins over Pavel Miranda, Jason Davis, and Cleotis Pendarvis, but December 4th will be his stiffest test when he squares off against fellow Californian, Mike Anchondo.

A charismatic and exciting performer in the ring, La Puente’s “Mighty” Mike Anchondo (29-2, 19 KOs) has seen the top of the boxing world, having won the WBO junior lightweight championship with his victory over Julio Pablo Chacon in 2007. After two disappointing losses, Anchondo walked away from the game in 2007, but in 2009, the 27-year old returned and has won two straight bouts, setting the stage for his intriguing showdown against Herrera
