Bernard Hopkins was on the Calvin Murphy radio show last night and an associate of Roy Jones Jr. got hold of Roy so he called in to join the conversation that soon turned into a fight negotiation. Jones came to the conclusion that “Bernard is scared,” and here are some highlights…

bhBernard Hopkins: Money has been the issue for the past ten years with us.
Roy Jones: How much will you give me
BH: I will make it a 60:40 split
RJ: How about 60 to the winner and 40 to the loser
BH: Now you want to make a contest out of it. I don’t need Roy Jones. It could wind up in the judges hands and you never know what will happen.
RJ: You pick the judges.
BH: If RJ will take 40, we can get it done before the year is out. But if not…
RJ: He already has an L on his record from me and he is trying to make me take 40 so he can prove that I am the lesser man. But if will make it 60 to the winner and 40 to the loser I will take my chances with that.
BH: Do you think I would make more money fighting Roy Jones than I would a young stud like Adamek or Dawson?
RJ: Bernard doesn’t want to fight me. Why would he want to fight me? He’s having fun now at this point in his career. He doesn’t want to take that gamble.
BH: Is Roy willing to go on record to take 40% win, lose or draw?
Show Producer: How about the winner-take-all?
RJ: That’s even better for me.
Show Producer: Bernard are you there?
RJ: No. When you said winner-take-all you ran him off the phone. He’s been doing that to me for 5 years now. He disappeared. That’s what happens to me. every time.

  1. I love the sport too Brown, but I hate all the BS lol Hopkins knows there is a big chance of him loosing, If he thinks he can win then take offer Jones is making, I mean come one winner takes all, that’s even better lol than 60 – 40.

Oh well, if this fight is gonna happen, it should happen right now, they are not getting younger and I think they can still pull of a great match if they make it by the end of the year like Hopkins says, but I have to take Jones side on this one, Hopkins is scared, if not he would have taken 60 – 40 to the winner of even better like Jones said; winner takes all LOL, this was a great interview!

  2. I don’t know what to say….but these guys need too fight and get it over with. And come to some kind of truth.

The ego can be a very bad thing, too carry with yo It has that control that’s not needed.

These old two fighters are still drinking from the fountain of youth, having a lot of fun . Hopkins, who will be turning 45 still at the top of his games, and still proving. Roy Jones Jr,
41, who has accomplished with an extraordinary career still wanting too have fun just like a kid.

Now I see why its so hard too leave the sport, besides the money the love and the passion never goes away and who are we too judge them and critisize them for still remaining in the sport.

The 40 year old’s… or how about over 40’s. What inspiring thing too witness, what a lesson one can learn from the past. Because the future young needs these guys, You can ask Kelly Pavlick that one, the one who got schooled by Bernard Hopkins 12 round of a history class lesson. .or maybe he might be too embarrass…LOL…witch he shouldn’t be because no one looks good fighting Bernard Hopkins rather if he win’s or loose that just the type of fighter that he his he’ll get the best out of you and makes you work.

    I love this sport.
