It’s been over 62 years since the people from Glendale CA last had a taste of the fistic arts but thanks to Bash Boxing and Art of Boxing Promotions they were able to enjoy the sweet science once again at the Glendale Civic Auditorium for 6 bouts of professional boxing dubbed as “Glendale Glory” on Friday night.
Andrey Fedesov from Saint Petersburg, Russia (20-1, 16KO’s) was featured in the main event against Galen Brown (32-12- 7KO’s). Fedesov being a natural heavyweight was in command from the opening bell forcing Brown to use his defense but Brown was hopeless and was immediately sent to the canvas with a right body shot. Brown from Missouri beat the count but was futile as Fedesov unleashed some heavy artillery forcing Jack Reiss to bring the bout to an end at 1:36 of round number two.
With an unspoiled record of 8-0 1KO Art Hovhannisyan from Yerevan, Armenia brutally demolish Daniel Gonzalez from Montana, sending him back home with another loss to his collection (9-23 5KO’s). The local Armenian who resides in Glendale was effective with his jab from the beginning. Hovhannisyan had no problem setting up the 1-2 combinations and while the crowd appreciated his home run swings, it went wild when Gonzalez tasted the canvas in the third round. Bleeding from his lip and right eye, Gonzalez heart is what kept him going but wasn’t enough to convince the referee. Raul Caiz Jr. stopped the fight at 0:21 of round 6.
Undefeated prospect Kayode Lateef (7-0, 9 KOs) easily dispatched challenger Francisco Mireles (8-4) with a shower of punches to the body. The barrage of leather was enough to put Mireles to his knees. Referee Jack Reiss waived it off 1:41 of round 1.
With over 50 professional fights Anthony Martinez (21-31-3 9KO’s) from Costa Rica was noticeably a mismatch against a young upcoming prospect, Max Skayzer (7-0-1) from Russia. Though Martinez was the more experienced, he was no match for straightforward power puncher Skayzer, Skayzer dominated the fight by pressuring the veteran landing unbelievable body shots. Martinez did land some overhand rights thru the scheduled six but it wasn’t enough to impress any of the judges. All 3 judges scored the bout 60-54 in favor Skayzer.
Behind a good countering jab, Gabriel Tolmajyan (6-1) was in command making it difficult for Hugo Ramos (2-1-1) to land a telling blow. Thru the scheduled 4 rounds Tolmajyan switched from left jab to a right one frustrating his opponent. Ramos tried to counter and was effective but soon grew tired after looking for the homerun punch. Tolmajyan kept his focus and continued to out box Ramos. Final scores were 38-38, 39-37 and 39-37.
The opening bout of the night saw light heavyweight Anatoloy Dudchenko (6-2) from Ukraine against Terrence Smith (6-11-2) both fighters began aggressively but seemed to tire. Dudchenko kept on steady pressure to win a unanimous decision. Final score were 59-55, 60-54 and 60-54.
