mayweather_money5b15dRumors are circulating in the internet about Floyd Mayweather Jr. getting a $15 Million payday for his upcoming battle against WBA & WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18.

Now that’s $3 Millions more than the guaranteed $12 million Manny Pacquiao received for his sparring session with Ricky Hatton on May 2. This only means one thing, retired or not Floyd Maweather Jr. continues to be the pound-for pound king if you really think about it its sad how a boxer who took a 17 month lay off is getting a higher purse than an active boxer.

I am sure many of you are thinking how this is possible or how can a promoter pay so much money for such a fight, well first off Golden Boy Promotions have the money and the’re not stupid, they know how much Floyd is worth. In 2007 Mayweather Jr. earned over $50 million in two pay-per-view fights, one against Ricky Hatton and the other with Oscar De La Hoya. They were able to pay Floyd 50 million, plus imagine how much profit they made its, all about the money.

It all comes down to who’s the smartest fighter, don’t get me wrong I am a HUGE Juan Manuel Marquez fan, but I think Floyd Mayweather Jr. is going to win. Mayweather is not a brawler, he’s smart fighter and yes it pissed me off how he used his elbow as defense and how he holds on when he’s in trouble. Marquez is going to do the same exact thing Hatton did when he faced Mayweather. Marquez is going to look for the knock out and he’s going to get tired and Floyd is going to keep landing those punches. It is like the Mario brothers Nintendo game, you keep hitting the little box and you keep getting those points. You have to remember you don’t need a knock out to win, you could win by points.

  1. according to rumors, the real reason for the mayweather-marquez postponement was poor ticket sales. if there really was substancial injury to warrant a postponement, why was the press not supplied with the details?

mayweather should wake up to the reality that pacquiao is now “the face” of boxing, if you will. the pacman offers more exciting fights and more honesty in this gladiatorial sport.

  2. Hey Jay…..
That figures your a MMA Fan….what in the hell do you know…….LOL Tell your UFC guys that sport will never take over boxing by the way. In fact top MMA fighter don’t make more money then boxers, are you serious.
Dana white is a goof…..Tell him to pay his fighters some more money….LOL

Jay you need to gets some eye drops and watch the fight again, with Dela Hoya and Mayweather. Dela Hoya clearly lost because he did not use his Jab pal, Its funny because he said it himself during an interview with Larry Merchant that he lost, what in the hell do you know stick too UFC buddy.

  3. Hey Brown. Everything said is opinionated. You sound like your a pro. You a coach or a ex fighter? You don’t know what the hell you are talking about, even mayweathers dad thought his son lost, it was a spit descision, if it was mma he would be booted out. It doesn’t matter if he lost a couple of fights he is at top now. Wishful thinking your guy Mayweather will last the 7th round. Maybe that is just boxing running from people. The only way I would watch Mayweather is if he fights Pacman, because all the running he does, however it won’t matter he will get knocked the f— out! Right now Pacman is the best pound 4 pound boxer. I would probably pay to see Cotto too, but not Mayweather. Too many weak boxers that is why I am more of a MMA fan.

  4. Hey ExamineurAuthor…..I think your going a little bit too far.
Pacquaio will never knock Mayweather. I don’t know where you get your ideology from. How do you figure?

  5. Hey Jay answer my question why do you think Cotto shouldn’t move down in weight too fight Manny Pacquaio?…..LOL

First of all, you don’t know what in the hell your talking about. Floyd asked Dela Hoya too fight at 147 he refused, and the fight was taken at 154. You should watch the fight carefully again because you must be blind as hell. Dela Hoya did not hardly use his Jab at all in that fight with Mayweather, he got out boxed period, what where you watching.

You can’t compared who has fought who and how much better one opponent has done too the other, its not the same. Styles makes fight Jay. So when Hatton took out Costello, and Mayweather had a hard time with him, Look what happen too Hatton when Mayweather stopped him.
You see, style makes fights pal.

Its wishfull thinking that Mayweather will get knocked out by Manny Pacquaio, this guy has one of the best defense in the world. As much as I respect Manny, he will not knock out Mayweather. its not going too happen, and you don’t worry the fight will happen my friend.

Lets not forget Manny has been knocked out twice already in career, has he gotten better over the years, absolutely.

  6. Mayweather is weak! He runs the whole time. Manny made De la Hoya retire, and Mayweather won a questionable fight with him by split decision, then Manny knocked out Hatton quickly. Manny has got the speed of Mayweather but with power!! If Manny fights Mayweather, Mayweather is going to run and get knocked out!

  7. Well here we go again its all about promotion the money will come back to these promoters and plus more. Floyd is a very marketable fighter and he brings entertainment the sport. Its funny how everyone demanded him to come out of retirement, and now that he’s back where going to be talking about his payday and complain about it.

Can we please make up our minds!!
