Yuri Foreman, who lost his World Boxing Association super welterweight title on June 5, 2010 when he was stopped in the ninth round by Miguel Cotto at Yankee Stadium, had surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee. Foreman was examined in New York on Monday and found to have a torn meniscus and a stretched ligament.

“It was a success. Yuri was released and starts rehabilitation on Monday,” said Dr. Laith Jazrawi in a statement. “If all goes well, he should be fine in six months. This was from a chronic injury and we didn’t find anything unusual. There were no surprises and nothing we couldn’t repair.”

“I’m pleased the surgery went well,” Foreman said in a statement. “Being on crutches is not the fun part. I thank my fans for their outpouring of good wishes.”

  1. I’m not that defending Yuri here but let’s just be considerate and humane. If you’re on Yuri’s shoes, you would not think of the injury, you’ll think of the fans instead. As a fighter, he fought with pride right there. There with his injured knee that’s bringing him excruciating pain! In his heart he wanted to finish the fight but just unable to pull through. If Yuri is 100% we would have all witnessed a much better fight even most of us bet on Cotto to win.

It’s sad to hear that sometimes fighters go through tough times. I wish Yuri full recovery and if he would decided to continue fighting or not well let’s just wish him good luck!

  2. I hope Foreman has a speedy and full recovery so he can resume his boxing career if that is what he chooses. Good luck to him.

I agree that boxers shouldn’t fight if they are not at 100%.

  3. you need to retire from boxing .your performane was very absurd and you look very pathetic .
You knew that you have a decrepit knee so why
did you waste our money watching your pathetic
    and amateur performane .
I am really sick and tired of boxing and feel that boxing fans are not getting what they are paying for .
We boxing fans need to watch a challenging
    and exciting fights .
it’s all about the $ which I totally understand, but boxers now a day have a chimerical financial demands .they’re talking millions and millions
and it’s very hard to get them in the ring.
In addition ,elite fighter only fight once or twice a year and who has the patient to wait!!
Pro boxers please be realistic and stop being avaricious .

  4. Just an unsolicited brotherly advice before anything gets worse: Stop fighting in the ring. Your loss could have been the Lord’s message to you to focus instead to your other profession in mind, as a rabbi.
