Was that really worth the $40 pay-per-view price tag?

This pass Saturday Top Rank hosted another Latin Fury-Pinoy Power pay-per-view event which featured 115-pound WBA interim super flyweight interim champion Nonito Donaire (23-1, 15 KOs) and WBO bantamweight champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel of Los Mochis as the co-main event.

I have nothing against these small events but if you’re going to charge for a pay-per-view event, I expect some competitive boxing fights. If you had to use the restroom during a fight, you would have missed the whole thing.

It took Donaire 1:33 of the third round to KO his opponent, his left uppercut was enough to convince referee Joe Cortez to stop the fight. This was so predictable. After Donaire’s original challenger Gerson Guerrero failed his physical, Manuel ‘Chango’ Vargas (26-5-1, 11 KOs) only had 3 days to train and had to move up two divisions, c’mon what did you expect?

Though the fight was scheduled for 12 rounds, Montiel (40-2-2, 30 KOs) needed just 2:06 and a left hand to the body to drop his foe to the floor for the ten-count.

I am not a promoter, but I am sure many boxing fans will agree with me that a rematch between Nonito Donaire and Vic Darchinyan would have been better or Donaire taking on Montiel at bantam will have been even better than that.

For those who paid for this PPV, did you get your money’s worth?

  1. I feel like a sucker and i only pitched in 10 bucks.thanks for the 411 Jesus A next time i will bust out the rabbit ear antenna. Not worth the 40 bucks for sure never again

  2. Are you kidding ? Did people actually pay for this ?
Being a local native the San Diego/Tijuana area I watch these fights on the Mexican channel 21 ( TV Azteca ) or channel 29 in HD. FREE of charge. This is not on cable. You need to bust out the rabbit ears antenna and your set. The only thing is that they start at 8:30pm local time.

  3. I am 1 of those who for so long longed to see Donaire Jr fights Vic Darchingyan. Unfortunately, there seems to be always an impediment to the realization of such fight. TO THE PROMOTERS, HOW ABOUT IT? LET’S BRING IT ON NOW. Both fighters want the rematch to prove that Donaire’s win over Vic was not a fluke.

  4. we boxing fans can stop the nonsense of promotor by not buying any pay per view event
specially when we are not getting the fights that we are asking for .
a big example for a stupid fight is on the way is
Clottey vs Manny ,this fight is pointless and hand picked by Arum bob thinking that all boxing fans are credulous and naive

  5. I learn my lesson when Julio Cesar Chavez fights.. I will never pay for any of his fights anymore unless he fights some worthy opponents.

  6. I bought it and it was not worth $40+. Maybe 20 or 30 but not 40 when Donaire keeps fighting bums and you have to pay for it. Montiel killed his guy too and that is BS for PPV.
