2012 Olympian Promises Powerful Performance

Undefeated Joseph Diaz Jr. will square off THIS Friday, December 13 at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. on the undercard of the Josesito Lopez-Mike Arnaoutis main event. The card is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and will air on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Deportes.

At the recent media workout held at Daniel Ponce de Leon’s Boxing Gym in Montebello, I had the chance to catch up with the unbeaten southpaw known as “JoJo.”

In our video interview below, the 21-year-old (7-0, 5 KOs) plans on showing the fans an aggressive, powerful performance come Friday night. The South El Monte hero will take on veteran Carlos Rodriguez (18-12-4, 10 KOs). With a new maturity and growth as a pro, the burgeoning star of the ring wants to make a statement in his upcoming fight, proving he can crack and turn it up a notch at will.

Diaz, an amateur standout and 2012 Olympian, has his father/trainer Joseph Diaz Sr., Ben Lira, Darryl Hudson and Ralph Heredia in his corner as he looks to claim his eighth victory as a new pro.

With a new more muscular physique, look for fireworks in the desert. This rising prizefighter tells me he’s in tip-top shape and ready to rumble.

Fighting in the super bantamweight division, his dream opponents in the future (after he has more fights under his belt) would be Leo Santa Cruz or Abner Mares (currently at featherweight) or anyone holding a championship title.

With another victory this Friday night, Diaz will keep building his win streak as he races for the top. The young puncher and his camp told me they plan on keeping JoJo busy in 2014.
