“King” Khan says he will be victorious THIS Saturday

British boxer Amir Khan (26-1, 18 KOs) will take on native son Lamont Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KOs) at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC THIS Saturday, December 10 on HBO. Heavyweights Seth Mitchell and Timur Ibragimov will face off in the co-main.

Trained by Freddie Roach, the fighter from Bolton seeks victory against 27-year-old Peterson, whose sole defeat came at the hands of Timothy Bradley. The final press conference took place today; this collision in the nation’s Capital has fans anticipating fireworks on the canvas.

I caught up with “King” Khan and his crew the night before they left for DC. Amir was at last Friday night’s “Fight for Life” charity event where members of law enforcement squared off against each other to raise funds for cancer treatment and research. Khan knew some of the sheriffs lacing up that night since the officers had also put in work at the Wild Card gym where the Brit trains. His good friend, Deputy Art Gonzalez, has also fought in these type of fundraising shows. The world titlist mentions he likes to support charity fight nights, both in the U.S. and the U.K.

And as the reigning WBA and IBF Light Welterweight Champion, the “King” of the ring hopes to make a statement this Saturday night. Before his mates fought in the event, I chatted with Khan about what his fans can expect to see, how training camp went and his prediction for this match against Peterson.

“We are gonna be ready,” Amir told me. “It’s gonna be a brilliant fight; I’m gonna be explosive in this fight!”

Any prediction?

“Maybe a late-round knockout,” the champ says, “or a 12-round unanimous decision.”

Today is Amir’s birthday (he turns 25 on December 8 ) so if his prediction is correct, looks like Khan’s army will have an extra long weekend celebration!
