You probably thought the Juan Manuel Marquez versus Floyd Mayweather Jr. under card was going to suck, well it looks like U.S. Olympian Vicente Escobedo (21-1, 13 KOs) will face former interim world champion Australian Michael Katsidis (25-2, 21 KOs) on the September 19 Mayweather-Marquez card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Escobedo has won his last twelve fights. Katsidis has been in with Joel Casamayor, Juan Diaz and Jesus Chavez among others.
Escobedo and Marquez are currently being trained by Nacho Beristain at La Romanza Gym in Mexico City. This will be Escobedo’s most dangerous opponent as they fight for the interim-WBO lightweight title.
“They just told me that I am going to fight for a championship and this is my first opportunity for a title and to fight by the side of Marquez on the most important weekend in Mexican boxing is simply exciting,” Escobedo told The Record.
