edwin-valero7During a visit to the Venezuelan newspaper Diario Deportivo last Monday afternoon, the WBC lightweight champion Edwin Valero dropped a bomb.

“My fight with Manny Pacquaio is signed,” the Venezuelan stated matter of factly.

“That was one of the conditions my manager Jose Castillo imposed on Bob Arum for me to sign with Top Rank.  This is something that I hadn’t mentioned to the press because there is clause in case Manny retires.  That is his only way out, to retire from boxing,” Valero continued.  “That is why I am calmly making a name for myself so I can be ready for my opportunity.  All this has been discussed with Manny Pacquaio.  This was back in January.”

“I think for now they are going to wait for the winner of Mayweather-Marquez but I don’t think neither one of them can withstand Pacquaio’s power.  I will have to wait a little bit but the fight has to happen,” he stated.

He also added that he will be training for his next bout, which has not been announced, in his native Venezuela.
