The 20-year-old WBC super welterweight world champion Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez is currently training in the mountains of Big Bear California for his first defense against mandatory challenger Ryan Rhodes, scheduled for June 18 at the Arena VFG in Tlajomulco, Jalisco, Mexico. Alvarez (36-0-1, 26 KO’s) has been sparing with super lightweight champ, Jose Reynoso and is currently with his father and team in big bear.
In his last fight “Canelo” outclassed Matthew Hatton in a lopsided 12 rounds winning the vacant WBC belt. If Alvarez is successful June 18, his next bout is targeted for Sept. 17, the weekend of Mexican Independence Day, which is a traditional date for a major Mexican boxing event.
