On Saturday night at the Citizens Business Bank Arena, Ontario, California HBO boxing After Dark doubleheader, Tomasz Adamek (41-1, 27 KOs) fought a smart fight by using his speed to inflict damage and never standing long enough for Chris Arreola (28-2, 25 KOs) to use his power advantage given that Arreola outweighed him by 33 1/2 pounds.

Arreola’s size and strength became more of a factor as the fight progressed but Adamek changed his tactics to hit and run making it difficult for Arreola to land a talent blow that frustrated Arreola, who several times stopped in the middle of the ring and dropped his arms to his side, urging Adamek to exchange with him.

At the end Adamek won a majority decision in a compelling match. Judge Tony Crebs scored it a draw, 114-114, but Barry Druxman had it 115-113 and Joseph Pasquale saw it 117-111. Adamek stamped himself a legitimate contender in the division with the win.

In the first fight of the televise Boxing After Dark, WBO interim champion Alfredo Angulo (18-1, 15 KOs) KO’d Joel Julio (35-4, 31 KOs) at 1:39 of the 11th round. Julio beat the count, but referee Raul Caiz Jr. called a halt to the bout after Julio scrambled to his feet, but was obviously still to dazed to continue.

Angulo’s pressure, however, began to break Julio down and he finished him with a big right hand .The California Boxing Commission fined Angulo $15,000 for being late to the weigh-in. It was agreed by all parties that the fine money would be paid to Joel Julio.

  1. This was the best heavyweight fight I’ve seen in years. Both fighters showed tremendous heart. I’m still at odds with who I want to make it big now. The blown up cruiserweight or the blown up heavyweight. I think Arreola needs to train with someone like Enamuel Steward. He has done wonders with the heavyweights he has worked with throughout the years. Good luck to both. Adamak has put himself in line with a future showdown for the heavyweight title.

  2. It was a very good fight, I was impress Tomasz didn’t go down, he was getting hit with some monster shots, but at the end he out worked Arreola who I think needs to start spending more time in the gyn than eating out and drinking, still he showed a lot of heart after he injured his right hand, still trowing it at times and not quitting, full respect for that.

  3. I watched this bout and I was quite surprised that it turned out to be somewhat entertaining. I thought this would come about to be a drag
