Young Talents Continue to Shine

Thompson Boxing Promotions (TBP) held their annual fundraising gala at the Doubletree Hotel in Orange, Calif. on Saturday, March 17. This St. Patrick’s Day bash was a private dinner show featuring four bouts of action in the ring.

This yearly event is always a highly-anticipated fiesta and Saturday’s outing did not disappoint. The attendees were treated to live music during the Social Hour and an acoustic performance by Roderick Chambers (who sang center ring while guests dined on filet mignon) before the fisticuffs ignited. The charity event benefited the TKO Youth Foundation.

The main event was rising star Michael Dutchover who won his matchup against Tijuana’s Ricardo Lopez. The Texas boxer received a unanimous decision from the judges and is on track to make a strong statement in the sport. The co-attraction was a heavyweight rumble with Scott Alexander scoring a TKO win over Pedro Rodriguez. In the opening contests, Luis Zarazua was victorious over Edgar Garcia and Anthony Franco won a majority decision over Derrik Clayton in spirited battles that had the fans cheering.

TBP President/Founder Ken Thompson and General Manager/Matchmaker Alex Camponovo continue to build on their success in the sweet science. The Orange County promotion has a full stable of young talent and promotes their monthly shows in the Southland.

Ring announcer Sonny Franco introduced the fighters in attendance including Danny Roman (WBA World Super Bantamweight Champ), Gio Santillan (WBO NABO Welterweight Champ), Erick Ituarte (NABF Junior Featherweight Champ), Brandon Trejo, Max Becerra (brand new TBP signee), Saul Sanchez, Mario Hernandez and Daniel Hernandez .

Danny Roman and trainer/manager Eddie Gonzalez just got back from Japan. Fresh off a win as Roman defended his belt in a fight against Ryo Matsumoto. The team looks lace up again this summer.

Thompson Boxing has a busy schedule. They have an April 14 show in Salinas featuring Ruben Villa, LaRon Mitchell, Brandon Trejo and Max Becerra and April 27 in Ontario in which Gio Santillan is scheduled to fight.

During the St. Paddy’s celebration, there were also door prizes and meet and greets with the Thompson Boxing champs and contenders. This special fundraising night is a first-class function and a chance for invited guests to see some live boxing up close and personal!
