The seven-foot “Russian Giant”, Nikolai Valuev, who celebrated his 37th birthday this pass weekend, is going under the knife for his left shoulder and right wrist in two weeks and most likely be out for at least 6 months.

Junior middleweight prospect Glen Tapia (7-0, 5 KOs) hopes to continue his unbeaten ways as he faces Brazilian journeyman Edvan Dos Santos Barros on September 11 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. The six-round fight will support the Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Orlando Salido/Anthony Peterson vs. Brandon Rios world title fight doubleheader.

Rubio wins rematch

WBC #4 middleweight Marco Antonio Rubio (48-5, 41 KOs) scored a sixth round KO over countryman Jose Luis Zertuche (21-7, 17 KOs) on Saturday night in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico. Rubio, whose camp passed on a September 4th title shot against WBA champ Felix Sturm, was in command all the way, getting the stoppage at the 1:16 mark. Rubio previously stopped Zertuche in February 2008.

  2. Valuev should retire permanently. He brings nothing to the heavyweight division. Hell, in that case, have all the heavies retire too !!!
