Within days of one another Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley and Floyd Mayweather vs Miguel Cotto fight tickets went on sale. The prices for each fight range from $200.00 up to $1,500.00 for Mayweather and only $1,200.00 for the highest priced ticket for Pacquiao.

As boxing fans eagerly got online and on the phones to be one of the few lucky ones to actually get a less expensive priced ticket ($200-$300 price range) many more were almost certainly left out of the ticket sweepstakes for the lower priced tickets.

In the current economic climate the lower priced tickets are typically the most reasonable and feasible options fight fans have in order to be able to watch their favorite fighter live. It also goes without saying that no fighters other than Mayweather and Pacquiao can call for such high priced tickets here in the US.

While Mayweather and Pacquiao battle who is the most sought after fighter let’s not overlook that there are other exciting boxers fighting in the next couple of months and their fight tickets are nowhere near the price the least expensive ticket Mayweather or Pacquiao tickets are going for.

Sergio Martinez fights on March 17th in New York City with a ticket price range from $65.00-$505.00, Brandon Rios vs Yuriorkis Gamboa April 14th in Las Vegas, prices tentatively priced at $25.00-$250.00, Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson rematch in Atlantic City, tickets priced at $25.00-$300.00, Victor Ortiz vs. Andre Berto rematch set for June 30th in Las Vegas ticket prices start at $50.00-$500.00, not to mention Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson fight tickets that have not went on sale for May 19th in Vegas as well. Those ticket prices will probably be around the same as Ortiz-Berto price range.

Those prices do not come close to what the two pound for pound and PPV kings Pacquiao and Mayweather bring to the table.

I for one cannot argue that Mayweather and Pacquiao prices are not fair in regards to their star power. These two individuals can and most likely will do better numbers than all the other fights referenced above combined.

Pac and Mayweather are fighting over who can sell the most live gate tickets and get the better PPV buys between themselves. My early guess is that Mayweather will have more PPV buys than Pacquiao.

However, as a friend of mine said, he will “play it by ear” about getting an overpriced

scalper ticket to Mayweather-Cotto fight as he has already booked his plane ticket and hotel room but was unsuccessful in landing a $200.00 or $300.00 dollar ticket to the fight. That in itself proves that even though some may not be able to get fight tickets to the biggest names in boxing, being their live in the city is almost just as fun and worth it. He will still be able to go to the FREE weigh-in on Friday and enjoy all the festivities Vegas can offer without having to perhaps sit through a disappointing fight or heaven forbid a Mayweather-Ortiz sequel. Even worse it could be a Pacquiao-Clottey replay.

But if being there live is what you are looking for, then my suggestion would be the Rios-Gamboa or the Ortiz-Berto rematch. The ticket prices are right and the fights should be good. Add that they are both in Vegas (Ortiz-Berto may be moved to LA) which in never a bad thing, you may be left leaving the arena knowing that you actually got your monies worth out of a fight.

So if you were one of the unfortunate souls that missed out on a $200 dollar ticket, there are some other great live fights around the country. If not, you can always pay $69.95 for the HD PPV broadcast.

  1. I think Rios/Gamboa will cram more action into it than both the May/Cotto and Pac/Bradley ppvs. The only thing that these ppvs may have over the the Rios/Gamboa fight is undercards, main event wise I expect Rios and Gamboa to go to war while Pac/Bradley can end in an early terrible fashion (headbutts) and May can potentially bore us all the way to a playing it safe UD over Cotto. I think Rios vs. Gamboa is more bang for the buck. (pun intended)
