In less than 4 weeks Mikey Garcia, brother of highly respected trainer Robert Garcia will get in the ring for the second time in a span of 77 days. His previous outing Garcia stopped highly respected Puerto Rican champion Roman Martinez in 8 rounds and while it is refreshing to see fighters actually getting back in the ring in such a short span Garcia also seems to be taking his challenger a little light.
While Team Garcia will be prepared come January 25th; Mikey has also been making some noise on Twitter with his back and forth banter with Yuriorkis Gamboa about a possible fight between the two hopefully sometime in 2014.
While the possible fight between Garcia and Gamboa would be one of the highly anticipated fights of 2014, as Garcia tweeted “u say yes, I say yes. People don’t understand that the promoters also need to agree.”
Which basically means the while Garcia is probably willing to fight Gamboa but he is not going to go out of his way to make the fight happen. Furthermore this could also mean trouble ahead for Garcia if he is looking past Juan Carlos Burgos. Burgos is not in the same league as Garcia but the does not mean he doesn’t have a punchers chance.
Garcia needs to take care of business January 25th and then focus on a possible match with Gamboa. However, honestly as a fan knowing that a possible Garcia-Gamboa fight may be on the horizon it’s hard not to overlook Burgos. January 26th fight fans will either be talking about a possible Gamboa match up or how Garcia overlooked his opponent and lost. My two-cents is, where and when will Garcia and Gamboa be getting it on later in 2014.
