Boxing Rap: Shane Mosley vs. Canelo Alvarez!

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I was inspired to write this Shane Mosley vs. Canelo Alvarez boxing rap as their May 5 clash nears.

The punching pair will settle this fistic feud at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Some fans are excited for this “Old Guard vs. New Guard” matchup while others are crying it’s a mismatch in both age and current skill level.

Who will win: “Sugar” Shane or the Cinnamon Kid?

It will be Sugar vs. Spice…And everything nice? Check out my tribute rhyme about the fight!

“SUGAR VS. SPICE” By Michele Chong

Shane Mosley and Canelo Alvarez are slated to meet in the ring,
On May 5th, just what will the two bring?

Will it be the Mosley of past glory who slayed Mayorga and Margarito,
Taking on the carrot-topped Mexican phenom going toe to toe?

“Sugar” Shane has 46 wins to Canelo’s 39,
But at age 21, it’s Alvarez’s time to shine.

Canelo’s beaten Cintron, Gomez, Hatton and more,
And with his youth, plenty of victories are in store.

But Mosley is a youthful age 40 who says he’s still going strong,
While his critics say continuing to fight is just plain wrong.

Right or wrong, fans will want to see this match,
Hoping that it’s a stunning knockout they will catch.

The two will be on the Mayweather–Cotto undercard,
Where strong fists and hearts will be pumping hard.

Will they float like a butterfly and sting like a bee,
Like the one and only legend Muhammad Ali?

And which one will win on this Cinco de Mayo,
where the duo will surely make a lot of dough.

Can Mosley shock the world and beat the Jalisco superstar,
who remains unbeaten in all of his bouts thus far.

Will it be a sizzling battle or a slow-moving dud…
Will their hooks and uppercuts land with a thud?

Some say it’s the old guard making way for the new,
So many questions, what say you?

These champs have 12 rounds to state their case,
Will “Sugar” Shane upset this fresh freckled-face?

So much to ponder in this upcoming war,
Which everyone is hoping won’t be a bore.

Fighting for Canelo’s WBC championship belt,
The pair is risking bloody cuts, bruises and maybe a welt.

To have their hand raised in glory makes it all worthwhile,
Seizing a victory with pride and relief shows in their smile.

It’s all going down at the MGM Grand,
Where bombs will be thrown–and hopefully land.

With perhaps no love lost between these two,
Who will be the hero…Who will be the foo?

Come May 5th, Canelo’s hoping to remain unbeaten,
While Mosley’s hoping to prove he’s no “has-been”!

Mosley vs. Canelo: “Sugar and Spice” and everything nice?
Could this, will this be a great fight you’ll wanna see twice?

Fight fans: Who will reign supreme as “King of the Ring”?
Maybe the real winner is the PPV buys: Cha–Ching!

Both have a lot to gain; both have a lot to lose,
The “Old Man” vs. “The Kid”: WHO DO YOU CHOOSE?

“Happy Valentine’s Day” from the “Chatter Box,”

  1. Mosley knows all the tricks in the book. I don’t know that Canelo can box or brawl for twelve rounds. I’m not saying Mosley will win but it will be interesting. Mosley is itching for a win. He hasn’t won since January ’09. I’m definitely watching

  2. Cool headline. Shane is done, unless he can throw something good on the first rounds. One thing many people dont know anout canelo is that he can box, and i havent seen him do that since he started boxing in the U.S of A.

  3. I think their styles will make this a good fight. If shane gets tence and gunshy its cuz Canelo got something for him. I dont think that will happen unless Canelo has enough power to make mosley uncomfortable . I’m expecting a good fight.

  4. Well, Michele, your rap was swell, but with this and the Winky Wright fight, the card may have good straight to hell. Last time we saw Shane, he was crying in pain; the Pacman had him sitting, and talking about quitting. Canelo has a hard time holding my attention, he’s good, but overrated; he only fights in one dimension. Plus knowing in his hay day, before he was all about a pay day, Shane would’ve sonned Saul faster than you could say “David Haye.” So, I don’t know if how long it’ll last, but me, get excited for this… nah, I think I’ll pass.
