Cancun promoter Pepe Gomez has announced that former world champion Sugar Shane Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KOs) has signed to fight Pablo Cesar Cano (26-2-1, 20 KOs) on May 18 at the Hotel Grand Oasis in Cancun, Mexico. The fight will be in the welterweight division and take place in a giant tent scaled for 10,000 fans. Also featured on the card will be WBC #1 super featherweight Sergio “Yeyo” Thompson (30-2, 28 KOs) against Ricardo “Rocky” Juárez (29-10-1, 21 KOs). A four city press tour will officially kickoff the event. Hard to believe the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer Mosley is looking for his first win in over four years. Cano is rated #11 by the WBA at super lightweight.

“I’m happy to get back in the ring competing,” Mosley told ESPN.com on Wednesday. “This can put me back in contention to fight for another world title.”

Mosley has not fought since losing a lopsided decision to junior middleweight titlist Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last May. A month later, Mosley announced his retirement.

  1. Mosley is shot. At this stage of his game I’ll take Cano, not because of what Cano “IS”, but more because of what Mosley “ISN’T”
