On my previous article about Antonio Tarver calling out Danny Green, I stated that Tarver did a better job as a commentator than Lennox Lewis. It seems that HBO has noticed as well.

After 4 years HBO has finally decided to replace Lennox Lewis with Sugar Ray Leonard. Being a commentator you must be naturally a gifted talker. Lewis was a bit dry, reserved and generic in his approach. Lewis has said he plans to work on his International Training Academy.

The Academy is intended to help the development of young boxers around the world. In addition there was a rumor that Freddie Roach was seriously considering filling the spot but at the end Ray Leonard got the job. This might be a shocker to some of you but Sugar Ray Leonard is not fan friendly.

I have seen Leonard at several events and every time he acts like he’s to good for anyone. He hides behinds body guards or he completely ignores you, like you don’t exist.

I last saw Leonard at the Chris Arreola-Tomasz Adamek fight last month at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA. As he sat at ringside, my friend who was a photographer that night, tried to snap a picture and Leonard completely ignored him and turned his back.

If boxing fans tried to get his autograph or take pictures with him, he will immediately tell his bodyguard/security to get them away. I know fans can sometimes be annoying and can be overwhelming but don’t ignore them. If it wasn’t because of them, Leonard won’t be who he is today. It is not the first time he does this. I have seen it with my own eyes. It would have been nice if he would waive hi to his fans and continue on his way but instead he completely ignores us. You could be calling him by his name and be 2 feet away and he will act like you’re not there.

Hopefully this won’t change the way you look at him but someone had to expose him.

Have any of you had a bad experience with Ray Leonard?

  1. I have had more than one experience and i must say Sugar Ray was nothing but gracious and avail. He took pictures and spoke with the fans and me.

What alot of fans dont want realize is that it is a two way street. They also need to treat these guys with respect.
