A few years back, the two worlds seemed miles apart. However now a days you can’t hear about a new contract or agreement without those two words and worlds being one of the same.
Athletes approach training the same way, business like. Fighters typically head to fight camp 4-6 weeks before their fight and turn into focused business like boxers. Fighters hunker down and get to work at the task at hand. Cardio, sparring, studying their opponent, preparing their game plan to execute for less than an hour of work in the ring.
In places like Big Bear, California fighters seek training camps where distractions are at a minimum because every fighter knows one punch can change a fight. The training leading up to their fights can mean a win or a loss once fight night comes around. Their training plan is put on full display, from their cardio to their preparedness of their opponent all come into play fight night.
Last night Abner Mares showed his readiness against his opponent and made Moreno fight his fight. In the end Mares won a unanimous decision and made a few more fans along the way. Fighters like Mares understand the difficulty of preparing for tough opponents such as Moreno.
However if fight fans caught either Showtime fights on Friday night or Saturday night they would have seen a familiar face in the crowd. Former super feather weight champion Adrien”The Problem” Broner. While it’s not uncommon to see a few fighters and celebrities in the crowd for big fights, it is a little surprising to see a fighter who is less than week away from his own fight to be in the crowd.
While not very fighter has the gifted set of fighting tools that Adrien Broner posses, it does not mean that Broner is above not getting prepared for his fight against a rugged opponent such as DeMarco. A fighter that while he may not have the same skill set as Broner, DeMarco is far from a fighter that should be overlooked by Broner.
Broner failed to make weight against Vicente Escobedo this past July and by the looks of it, Boner is seemingly taking his fight this upcoming weekend as perhaps less than business like. While every fighter trains in their own way, most fighters typically do not do well when they overlook their opponents as Broner seems to be doing.
Broner may be called “The Problem” but if his lack of focus this week in any indication of things to come- The only problem Broner will have will be of his own doing.
