With the recent emergence of the victorious Robert Helenius and Alexander Povetkin and those who lost, Serhei Liakhovich and Ruslan Chagaev, we have found 4 heavyweights who bring action and excitement. Below the Klitshcko’s, we have a very exciting, level group of competitors from Europe and the United States. Here is a quick breakdown of some exciting heavyweight contenders.
Although he lost, Serhei Liakhovich did show that without the ring rust, he will bring excitement and competition to the heavyweight division. It would be great to see him fight the rebounding Cris Arreola. Arreola has been very active and is on the road to another title shot. Fighting a former, game champion like Liakhovich could determine whether or not he can step back into a top contender position.
Povetkin is rumored to be fighting Evander Holyfield in December. The world is scared for Holyfield’s future health but will still let him continue fighting due to his name? Who can compete at the top level of the heavyweight division for so long and not end up with some screws loose? Holyfield is endangering himself by continuing to fight, especially at this level. A Povetkin fight with the soon to be retired David Haye could prove interesting.
David Haye is another interesting contender. Although he lost to Klitschko (come on, he had a swollen pinky toe, give him a break- he would have easily knocked out Klitschko if his pinky toe was fine- I am joking if you cannot sense the sarcasm) Haye is still a top name in the division. If he decides to continue fighting, bouts with top American Heavyweight contenders such as Tony Thompson-Eddie Chambers fight winner or Cris Arreola could help bring him back to the top. Tyson Fury is a gigantic man who is still progressing. Wisely, he is not pursuing Klistchko but is remaining active. Mariusz Wach, another giant is doing the same. He had a monstrous knockout of Kevin McBride
and should be watched.
Deontay Wilder is tall and placed in the Olympics. With time, he will be a very good American Heavyweight.
Out of this list, my favorite up and coming heavyweight is Robert Helenius. Not only is he a heavyweight in build, he is talented. He is sharp, heavy handed and puts together combinations. I expect to see him champ someday.
What do you guys think of the heavyweights?
Lets get Robert Helenius, Alexander Povetkin, Serhei Liakhovich, Ruslan Chagaev, Cris Arreola Eddie Chambers, Odlanier SolÃs and David Haye to batlle in a Heavywieght tournament.
The winner gets Klitshcko, and the runner up gets Klitshcko!
That would spice up the Heavyweight division!
I think they could make a little money off of that too.
