There are many fighters who will call out and talk so much shit in hopes of getting a big fight or what some will call a big pay check but at the end when it all comes down to backing up their trash talking, they refuse to take a risk. Take Joshua Clottey, he got his biggest payday of his career when he faced Manny Pacquiao and turned out to be a stupid fight with Clottey refusing to take any risk but to collect a paycheck.
There are guys like Sergio Martinez who don’t care about the biggest payday. To him fighting for pride and pleasing his fans is worth more.
After beating Shane Mosley last Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Floyd “Money” Mayweather showed interest of moving up in weight to face Sergio Martinez but Martinez is willing to pass on such offer regardless of being guaranteed millions of dollars.
“We are not entertaining any offers from any fighter or promoters beside Kelly Pavlik because we signed and we need to honor the contract regardless of the money. I believe in boxing, just like in any other business, you need to honor your word and honor your signature. So its Kelly next,” International matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz told BoxingScene.com
If the rematch clause is not taken advantage of and an immediate rematch against Kelly Pavlik is not made, Sergio Martinez would rather get revenge and fight Antonio Margarito. Sergio was TKO’d by Margarito almost ten years ago giving him his first professional loss and his biggest paycheck at that time, $1,000.
Martinez walked back into Argentina with $900 dollars in his pocket and a dent in his record.
“However, he’s now looking at millions of dollars and he has a great future and definitely Margarito is one fight he wants as a rematch,” said Lewkowicz.
This shows the type of person Sergio Martinez is and for that you have to give him the respect he deserves.
Martinez is a great fighter I don’t think Pavlik would want to step into the ring with him again…I hope he gets a chance at williams again that would be another great battle
