Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (33-0-1, 25 KOs) scored a sixth round TKO over Luciano Leonel Cuello (26-2, 12 KOs) on Saturday night at the Arena VFG in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
Canelo (33-0-1, 25 KOs) began the fight with a strong jab that kept Luciano at bay before a hard left hook sent the Argentinean down towards the end of the opening bell and again another left hook knocked Luciano out on the second round. Luciano stayed on his feet for the rest of the fight, but it was all one-way traffic from Canelo and the beating was finally stopped in round six. With the win, Alvarez claimed the vacant WBC Silver super welterweight belt.

TijuanaBoxing,
I agree. I too have been to fights where Chavez gets booood. Once at the other bullring in La Mesa on a Travieso Arce undercard. The other time at the ‘auditorio municipal’. In a way it’s not his fault. It’s just the way he’s being brought along. I also agree with your comments regarding Alvarez. He has the tools and the heart. He needs to start fighting better known competition though…
If you look at like in a diferent way, Alvarez did in 1 round what Chanvez Jr. could not do over the entire fight, I was in attendance when Jr. fought Luiano in Playas de Tijuana’s bull ring and he crowd was booing at times, boring slow fight that could not entertain a freaking bird.
In the other hand, Canelo top thus guy to school, not a top fighter at all, but he had him hurt from round 1.
I think Roach should be training “El Canelo” instead of Chavez Jr, he would have way more to work with, and at this moment I think Canelo has more raw talent at a younger age than Jr.
Maybe we are being to hard on Chavez Jr., but the truth is they have tried to sell us “the son of a legend” image of Chavez, but what we have been getting has only been the last name, and not a quality performance.
Maybe he will become a good fighter with Roach as a trainer, but I would really like to see what Roach could do with Alvarez, either way Canelo is on the right path, he looks strong physically and mentally, he is only 19 and looks like everyone in Mexico is falling in love with this kid, everyone sees him as the next big Mexican champion and very well could be.
Hope he gets good management and training, needs to learn good defense and movement, right now with the right people looks like the sky is the limit!
Alvarez is a good prospect but what is up with these ‘silver’ belts ??
