Unbeaten IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (27-0, 22 KOs) and 168-pound contender Brian Magee (34-3-1, 24 KOs) showed each other great respect at Wednesday’s press conference from Boutique Videotron in Montreal, Canada leading up to their title bout on Saturday, March 19 on SHOWTIME® at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) from the Bell Centre in Montreal. The telecast will begin with the rebroadcast of the March 12 action-packed SHOWTIME PPV® fight between World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and Ricardo Mayorga.

Bute, who signed with SHOWTIME in November 2010, is one of the most talented pound-for-pound and popular fighters of this era. He has won all but one of his title defenses by knockout, including four consecutive victories inside the distance.

The 35-year-old Magee has not lost since 2006 and is also riding an impressive streak of four consecutive knockouts. Magee has won six in a row and nine of 10 since his loss to Carl Froch of the Super Six World Boxing Classic, which returns to SHOWTIME in May.

In front of sea of local television cameras and eager reporters, Bute and Magee promised to do most of their talking inside the ring on Saturday night.

Undercard

Undefeated junior middleweight up and comer Vanes “The Nightmare” Martirosyan (28-0, 17KOs) landed in Montreal, Canada, earlier this evening. The 2004 U.S. Olympian is set to face Bladimir Hernandez (18-4 16KOs) on Saturday in a fight that is part of the Lucian Bute versus Brian Magee undercard at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Martirosyan has been out of the ring since June of last year and can’t wait to step back inside the squared circle, “It’s been a long time coming and I can’t wait to get back in the ring.

On Saturday I am looking to make a statement.” Following this fight Martirosyan will return to the ring on April 23rd versus Saul Roman (34-8, 29KOs) for the WBC junior middleweight silver belt. With a win there, the Armenian fighter hopes to land a fight versus one of the major players in the division. “I want to fight any of the champions. It doesn’t matter which one,” the confident Martirosyan stated. “After these two fights I hope to be in a big fight this summer.”

  1. When is this Martirosyan cat gonna finally step up to face a fellow top contender? He’s been talking shit for years and there he goes again with what seems to be another handpicked oponent.

  2. I would love to see Bute fight Carl Froch, win loose, or draw. Froch has a style to make it interesting. Although Bute is undefeated on paper, he lost to Librado Andrade in their first fight in my opinion.

  3. Yeah I think Bute walks through Magee it will get interesting when he starts fighting against some of the Super Six fighters. I can see Froch, and Kessler giving him a good challenge if he can get by them it will make the Ward/Bute fight that much more interesting cuz I really don’t see Ward losing to anybody thats in the tournament but Froch will be a stiff challenge for Ward I see Froch winning against old man Glenn not taking anything away from Johnson cuz he’s a warrior and gives anybody fits in a fight and is still capable winning this fight but I just see his age and gas tank being the reasons why Froch beats him.

  4. This should be a good fight, but wat I really want to see is Bute against the winner of the Super six!
I think he’ll have no problem getting pass Magee then a fight against the Super six will should be imminent!
