Lopez-Salido II
Lopez-Salido II will take place Saturday, March 10 and will be televised live from Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, P.R. on SHOWTIME Championship Boxing®, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Photos by Peter Amador

While most fans are waiting on whether or not Yuriorkis Gamboa will sign and fight Brandon Rios on April 14th; two fighters prepare for their rematch of last April once again as Juan Manuel Lopez otherwise known as “Juanma” looks to avenge his only loss against the rugged Orlando Salido in Puerto Rico.

In less than a year, Juanma has gone from a fighter everyone wanted to see in the ring with Gamboa to a fighter looking to erase the last 11 months. Juanma looks to be one step closer to starting over this Saturday by beating the only man he’s lost to-Orlando Salido.

Salido in his own right shocked everyone by not only beating Junma last April but by stopping his foe in his own backyard. Salido will get back in the ring in Puerto Rico with what’s to be expected a loud crowd looking to help their hometown fighter by making the arena loud and uncomfortable. While Salido is no stranger to the atmosphere I do feel that in order for Salido to win once again in Puerto Rico he must not let it get decided by the judges.

Yes, I am saying he needs to stop Juanma is he has any shot at winning once again. This is not the first time I have stated that the visiting fighter needs to stop his opponent in order to win, but boxing has not convinced me otherwise as of late.

Salido has the confidence and the stamina to do what he did last time to Juanma – win the fight and if he hopes to win Saturday he needs a knockout. If he cannot get the KO, then Salido must put Juanma down more than once to help his chances.

To be fair, Juanma is the harder puncher and the younger fighter, however in the last fight Juanma also blamed “personal issues” that had affected his performance, but Junma had struggled against other opponents, so now that the personal issues are behind him, will Juanma be able to capture what he once was?

Odds makers are counting on it and have Juanma favored in the rematch. Rightfully so, while Salido shocked the featherweight division last April, this time around may not be as surprising. Salido was considered a gatekeeper and with 11 losses it’s hard not to argue that, but Salido also has the toughness fans have come to expect from Mexican fighters and that you cannot but a price tag on.

In the end, my head tell me Juanma but my heart is saying Salido. I’m taking Salido with another stoppage, this time by Juanma’s corner.

  1. How is it possible we are talking lopez winning a close fight against the “champ” in the score cards? Last i knew the challenger had to prove himself. We already know its those dirty judges from puerto rico.

  2. Salido needs to finish the rounds strong especially in the champonship rounds. Juanma will get the benefit of close rounds. Simple as that.

  3. i agree that its going almost impossible to win on the scorecards and i thiink lopez will be better prepared but Salido is tough and i feel can pull off another upset knockout hes hungry and wants it more i think well hope its a goos fight salido by k.o

  4. I would like to see Salido do it again in Lopez’s backyard but I think Lopez will be better prepared this time around and will get the win. Either way I hope this fight is another great one like the first fight. Salido does indeed need a K.O. to walk away with his title, with all the hometown decisions as of late he can leave it in the judges hands, no doubt their scorecards will already be favoring Lopez.
