Love him or hate him, Floyd Mayweather is THE cash cow of boxing. He is the Boardwalk Hotel in the boxing game of Monopoly. Leonard Ellerbe, an adviser to Mayweather, has been quoted saying, “You hit the lottery once you’ve become a Floyd Mayweather opponent.” This is absolutely true. Subsequently, with that said, who is going to pass up multi-millions of dollars and the opportunity to own the Boardwalk?
Everybody wants a shot at Mayweather; ready or not? You would not turn down three to five million dollars if it was left at your doorstep and a fight contract with Floyd “Money” Mayweather is no different for prospective opponents. So, who is most likely to be the next lottery winner? Most signs point to Robert Guerrero or Canelo Alvarez. Guerrero made $1 million in his last bout against Andre Berto. Alvarez made $2 million his last time out against Josesito Lopez. Both fighters will make at least double that given the draw Mayweather commands, especially on a Cinco de Mayo weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. On the contrary, Mayweather will make around $20 million from the fight purse contract alone.
Boxing and promoters like to make fights and matchups that generate the most money possible, and sit on popular matchups to stretch out the desired dollar. Given Canelo’s popularity is not likely to fade anytime soon, it is most likely that Guerrero will be the next up for Mayweather. Coming off an exciting fight and victory over Andre Berto to end 2012, Golden Boy and Mayweather Promotions will likely work out something with Guerrero first while the iron is hot. Look to see Mayweather and Guerrero at the MGM in Las Vegas on May 4, 2013.
If things do unfold this way and Mayweather stays undefeated against Guerrero, look for a possible super fight in September for Mexican Independence Day weekend in Las Vegas against Canelo Alvarez. With the recent loss by Pacquiao to Marquez, this may be the most desired matchup and one of the more popular amongst boxing fans. It would also mean Floyd Mayweather would fight twice in 2013, which would be the first time he has done so since 2007 when he fought and beat both Oscar 
De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton.
Although Canelo Alvarez has been all over asking for the fight with Mayweather, he will likely have to wait and find another opponent in the interim. That could be against WBA Junior Middleweight champion Austin Trout who is coming off his December 1st slashing of Miguel Cotto. Likewise, Cotto has been mentioned as a possible opponent for Alvarez. Despite his loss to Trout, don’t count Cotto out of the running for a fight with Alvarez. Trout may be the most deserving and more logical opponent for the young Mexican fighter, but Cotto is the more popular of the two and unfortunately, boxing promoters don’t always do the right thing.

Canelo has the best chance from the two. But after he beats trout to avenge his brothers loss.
Money May could beat both these chumps one after the next on the same night. Guerrero ain’t nothing but a roided up lightweight w one decent win. Canelo hasn’t done a thing except knock down one tomato can after the next. Give me a break. Neither of these two could beat Marquez and he looked sad simply outclassed against Money.
Melvin u crazy guerrerro he will definetely beat but not canelo. Canelo alvarez is a smart powerful skillful type fighter that mayweather been dodging for years. He hand picks fights with fighters past their prime, ortiz was exception but ortiz is a dumb ass fighter with strength but no boxing intelligence. Canelo will definetely beat him.

As far as Guerrero I don’t care for,he has done good and put up a good performance against Berto impressive. Although he has not done great to fight mayweather. He still has a lot to show, mayweather needs to step in with the bigger guys we have seen thru years he has done great with the smaller fighters, now he needs to stop being a pu&$y and fight Sergio Martinez paman or even trout and demonstrate he is the best p4p.
It dnt matter which 1he fight b/c he will beat either 1j just as he did all the rest that came up short… 🙂
