By Steve Kim from MaxBoxing: There have been some disastrous pay-per-view undercards recently, but both Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank have promised to deliver robust cards on their next major pay-per-view forays. Golden Boy gets their chance on September 19Th when Floyd Mayweather makes his return versus Juan Manuel Marquez from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“We wanted to make absolutely sure it’s going to be an absolutely jaw-dropping undercard and I think we’re getting there,” said Richard Schaefer, Golden Boy’s CEO on Tuesday afternoon.” And you’re going to be the judge. Any card, any promoter, since I’ve been involved in boxing since 2000- this is going to be the best undercard. And we are like 98-percent there. That would be Zab Judah-Antonio Diaz, Rocky Juarez against Chris John and Vicente Escobedo against Michael Katsidis.
” Eric Gomez (GBP, matchmaker) is almost there, I would say 95-percent. If we get that card done, I really have to hand it to Eric and have to hand it to, honestly, to Mayweather as well. Because Mayweather made it happen. He really wanted to put on a great night of boxing together. And if we can pull that off, I don’t know of any card since then( 2000)- and not just with what we’ve done- but with other promoters, as well, that had that kind of quality undercard.”
Can’t say I disagree with ‘the Swiss Banker’, this is a very nice looking line-up. I think Golden Boy has definitely held serve, now, what will Top Rank come up with for November 19Th, when Manny Pacquiao takes on Miguel Cotto in the same building?
