Former WBA/WBC world boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga is scheduled to make his MMA debut on May 15th at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, NC. If only the transition was that easy. On Tuesday, Don King who signed Ricardo Mayorga to a promotional contract in 2008, demanded that MMA promoter Shine cease publicizing Mayorga’s May 15 bout with Din Thomas.

Don King Promotions believes it’s a violation of its own agreement with Mayorga and has threaten of taking legal action. Mayorga filed suit against King late last year for what Mayorga claimed was a failure to honor their three-year deal; King allegedly did not offer him the volume of fights promised. Since this would be considered a breach, Mayorga apparently felt free to exercise his potential outside of King’s reach but he wound up dropping the suit before any court resolution could be obtained.

Now the Nicaragua native is stuck in a mess of contractual ambiguity. Is unknown at this time if Mayorga was using the Florida based MMA promotion company, Shine, to prompt King into action.

Taking in consideration that Mayorga looked no where near the fighting weight during the opening press conference and has failed to show up for further press events, even missing an open workout scheduled to promote the event.

I guess we will find out next week if Ricardo Mayorga was bluffing or not!
