Joan Guzman to Fight for Title Again!

On March 27th in a city to be determined, Joan Guzman of the Dominican Republic will once again try to conquer a world title when he faces Ali Funeka for the vacant IBF lightweight title.

DominicanosHoy.com reported the news early Sunday morning. The former two time champion Guzman (29-0-1, 17KO) is ranked at the #4 lightweight in the world by the IBF while Funeka is ranked #3.

Kermit Cintron vs. Paul Williams

Boxingtalk.com has started a rumor that former welterweight champion Kermit Cintron has no issue facing Paul Williams at any weight between welterweight and junior middleweight. Impeccable sources inform us that Cintron would have no issue-making welterweight for the proposed May 8 date HBO is holding for Williams.

Morales Begins Sparring!

This past Friday, former world champion Erik “Terrible” Morales began his sparring sessions for his March 27th comeback against Nicaragua’s Jose Alfaro in Monterrey, MX. Morales has been in the Otomi Mountains in southeastern Mexico for two weeks in preparation for his first fight after a two-year hiatus.

“I am very motivated in returning to the top again with my original team,” Morales, who is trained by his father, stated.

A three divisional WBC champion, super bantamweight, featherweight and super featherweight, Morales hopes to win a fourth title in either lightweight or jr. welterweight to become the first Mexican fighter to do so.

“I have felt great in training and I have been able to handle the work load,” Morales added. “On March 27th I will be in great physical condition.”

He also mentioned that he has lowered his weight considerably and will have no trouble in making the 142 lbs. catch weight for the Alfaro bout scheduled for the Arena Monterrey.

“After my break I have felt great. My rest did me good and I will show that I can continue in boxing,” he said.

  1. I’m not a big supporter of Morales’s comeback, he’s had a great career has really gave it all in the ring and there is no reason to come back, he’s one if the my favor fighter and I really don’t want him to get hurt.. But if he’s back..well I’m gonna have to watch, got my plane tickets for Monterrey already and I’m waiting for the fight tickets to come out.

Edgar, if you hear anything about the fight tickets coming out please let me know, not sure if “superboletos” will sell them or where else to get it.

Cintron Vs Williams should be a good fight and at the same time I think is going to be a long night for Cintron, I’m not to convince with him yet, Martinez to me won the fight with Cintron and with Williams and I think this is a fight for Williams to win, it’s not going to be easy but that’s how I see it.

I may get crap for this but I think Cintron should fight Margarito a 3rd time, let them do some x-rays on Margos gloves and whatever the hell they could do and then see who’s who.

  2. Cintron will make any weight necessary to fight Williams. I can only hope this fight comes together. It should be a great one.
