Rafael Marquez injured, Two Thumbs Down

Rumor is that Rafael Marquez injured his right thumb and his fight against WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez on September 18th might be cancelled. Marquez’s promoters, Gary Shaw and Fernando Beltran, are flying to Mexico City today to meet with Marquez and his trainer, Daniel Zaragoza.

Apparently Marquez injured his thumb on the door of a bus and will be out six to eight weeks. If you ever been in a public bus in Mexico, you know how dangerous it is, those bus drivers are always in a hurry to get you in and out. If Marquez can’t get the green light to fight, Top Rank has no choice but to replace him.

I was told Top Rank will make an announcement once they speak with Marquez and his team.
