Rafael Concepcion fails to make weight

Rafael Concepcion was fined 20% of his purse ($13,000, $6,500 going to the NSAC, $6,500 going to Donaire) for not making weight. Only Donaire is eligible to claim the vacant WBA title with a win on Saturday night.
The Official weight was Nonito Donaire 115 vs. Rafael Concepcion 119.5. Concepcion was 4.5 lbs over weight. The weight limit for the WBA interim super-flyweight title fight in Las Vegas is 115 pounds because Concepcion didn’t make weight the fight will still take place, but only Donaire would be able to claim the vacant belt with a win. Concepcion (13-3-1, 8 KOs) and Donaire (21-1, 14 KOs) meet in the “Pinoy Power II” PPV main event Saturday at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The announce team for Top Rank’s Pinoy Power 2 PPV telecast will be Al Bernstein, television personality Mario Lopez and two-time world champion Brian ‘Hawaiian Punch’ Viloria on Saturday night at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Rick Seara, award-winning producer, of Top Rank made the announcement yesterday.

Nonito Donaire and Rafael Concepcion will weigh in at 3 pm Friday (today) at the Hard Rock. Donaire and Concepcion will weigh first, followed by Steven Luevano and Bernabe Concepcion. The public is invited.

First bell on Saturday is 4 pm local time. The PPV telecast will begin at 6 pm.

  1. Pacquiao was in the same predicament before when, as a flyweight, he couldn’t make the weight limit after several trips to the weighing scale. He was so dehydrated. He was stripped of the title before entering the ring. Worst, he lost the fight by KO and the challenger got the title. I think this was in Thailand.
