Amir-Khan

Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Lamont Peterson (Left) and former Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Amir Khan (Right) pose on March 13, 2012 in London, England at a press conference to officially announce their May 19, 2012 Unified Super Lightweight World Championship rematch at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada which will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing in the United States and live on Sky Sports 1 HD in the United Kingdom.

Lamont Peterson: I decided to take the rematch, it is not anything that Khan said or I feel I have to prove myself or anyone. We’re fighting the rematch because we all thought it was a great fight and we should do it again to please the fans. Seems like Team Khan still has problems that what happened in DC, I can only tell them that nothing shady happened in DC but I’m pretty sure they won’t take my word on it. So Team Khan, you all have the chance to make things right, I’m looking forward to a good fight, I’ll be training just as hard as you and you said you started in your training camp two weeks before you normally do, well I’ve been training since that day that we stepped out of the ring so I’ll be prepared and ready for it in the ring to keep these titles.

Amir Khan: This is the time we put things straight and make sure we don’t make the same mistakes we made the last fight in December and honestly think I won and will come back and win this next fight in May. Clearly we’ll prove to people who the champion is. It’s a tough fight and will show how focused we are in this fight. We’ll see on May 19th, people want to see this fight and it’s a time for me to prove (that I am the champion) and put things straight. We’re two good fighters in the ring and the second fight will be better than the first. I think that the referee and judges will be neutral and fair and a neutral commission, we didn’t have it the first time, but this time we will be treated fairly. We’re two good fighters in the ring and we want to be treated fairly and we’re sure we will be.

  1. I didn’t know that Peterson was stripped of the title but I can’t say it was wrong for them to do so. All that stuff that was going on outside the ring during that fight was very suspect, plus I don’t believe Peterson did enough in that fight to get the victory in the first place. I’m not a big Khan fan but whats right is right and I think he won the fight.

  2. I hope Peterson stops Khan, at least his crybaby antics payed off now that the WBA stripped Peterson and awarded Khan the belt. I didn’t like Khan before and now I simply cant stand him.
