Newly Crowned WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion Abner Mares poses following his unanimous decision victory over former Two-Time World Champion Eric Morel on April 21, 2012 at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.
After the fight, Mares was elated to win his second world title. Mares stated, “This is the sharpest I have ever been. I’m surprised he took it so well. Morel’s style helped a lot. I was really surprised he could take my power. Eric is a great fighter.
“I’m more complete now, but there’s still room for improvement. I feel a lot stronger at this new weight.”
What’s next for Mares?
“I am not afraid of anyone,” said Mares. “I want Nonito Donaire, or Jorge Arce next.”
