Manny Pacquiaos date to fight has been moved from April 16 to May 7. Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, said it was moved to May 7 to avoid conflicts with Pacquiao’s duties as a congressman representing the Sarangani province.

May 7 is also a better date for pay-per-view. “The pay-per-view industry was very, very adamant about wanting Manny to go in May because they felt going in April there were too many pay-per-view events with WrestleMania and a UFC. While they may not be directly competitive for viewers, they are when it comes to the ad space on cable systems and the [satellite] dishes,” Arum told ESPN.

As for who Pacquiao will fight, Arum has made it clear he that he prefers Mosley — who is in the midst of a split from Top Rank rival Golden Boy Promotions as he tries to land the fight — but said that the final decision is up to Pacquiao. He said he has presented him with the economics of each deal but that it’s “not my job to read tea leaves.”

Bob Arum broke down the overview of each potential opponent Berto, Mosley and Marquez.

“The problem with Marquez is the number he wants is so damn high and he hasn’t moved off it, and that’s preventing the Marquez fight,” Arum said. “We know what he got when he fought [Floyd] Mayweather and we feel that asking for double what he got for the Mayweather fight after he lost to Mayweather is a little bit much. Maybe he doesn’t feel that way.”

Marquez was guaranteed $3.2 million to fight Mayweather. Arum said he also received an upside on the pay-per-view of $1 per home above 1 million buys. The fight did just north of a million buys “so his upside ended up being very small.”

As for Berto, Arum said his offer was “the most reasonable. He came in below everybody and he would be an excellent, excellent opponent. But his promoter [Lou DiBella] got to get out and promote him so he has a persona and that if we put him in with Pacquiao people don’t say, ‘Who the hell is that?’ ”

Mosley is the most well-known of the three, but has shown significant signs that he is near the end.

“He’s the guy everybody knows, the pay-per-view guys, the casinos, the foreign television. Sugar Shane resonates,” Arum said. “The downside is he has two bad performances, but he’s still Sugar Shane. With Shane, there’s room to make an adjustment, a little tweak here or there, and I’m sure we could get it done.”

Mosley, 39, is coming off poor performances in his last two fights. Mayweather wiped him out in lopsided decision in May and he fought to a desultory draw with Sergio Mora in September.

  1. I agree with you guys on two things.Manny fighting for a 154lb title at 148 isnt cool and Pacquiao vs mosely isnt the fight the fans want to see. Manny made 148lb for margarito so he can make 147. JMM can make 147 aswell so thats not a big deal and there is no catch weight needed. I think fighting mosely is more buisness than anything else. Manny is not scared of JMM and I think that fight would have happend if the Marquez camp didnt get so greedy. I think everyone is just going to have to wait their turn.

  2. right after the 2nd fight golden boy ask too much money for the 3rd fight and top rank turn them down, and now golden boy is asking 5 million dollars for the fight, once again bob arum told golden boy they can kiss his ASS, so its clear they want MANNY for the money, golden boy is trying to dictate the financial matter for this fight to happen, but they don’t have the fighter to be dictating anybody on how much $$$$$ they should be getting in other word they need to take what bob arum is willing to give that’s just the way it is when you have the star boxer…..

  3. im glad alot of us boxing fans are catching up with the bullsheeeetttt pacman and arum are doing. jmm at 147 makes no ffff sense. u cant weigh over 144 but demands marquez to jump weight divisions to fight pacman… pacman is a bumb who takes advantage of bad situations to make himself look good.

  4. @ Loveboxing, Thats soo true that Manny seems scared. What a stupid demand fight at 147 when he can’t even make the weight himself. Arum, Manny and Roach make me sick the more they try to put Manny at the best advantage with the catchweight demands and fighting at weights he can’t even make and fighting guys who are coming off sloppy performances or losses is stupid and shows everything thats wrong with the sport now and days. JMM is at least taking the best challenges in his weight class and still dominating. 140 is the best weight for the fight both can easily make the weight, Manny won’t do it cuz he know’s JMM is coming to give him hell once again. So if he is gonna fight JMM he want’s him to be at his worst @ 147 so he doesn’t risk the loss. Fight Mosley and prove nothing is what they are gonna do even Berto is a more respectable fight at least he isn’t shot like Mosley is. I use to respect Manny but now I see him as another guy I wanna see get beat like Floyd P4P the best cherry-pickers in the sport

  5. Bob and Manny only wants what’s good for both of them in every fight. People cannot tell them what to do. So for boxing fans, well, they’ll still be hopeful to see good fights.

  6. wow seriously manny is scared of JMM.
taking a fight with an old man but not JMM
Not only I am not going to order the fight, but also I will make sure not to see it .
Arum is damaging the sport .I did not know that Manny is a coward .
He hardly made 144 last fight and demanding
JMM to go up to 147 .What a coward .
