In a cross divisional “Dream Match” fought at welterweight poundage, WBC lightweight champion and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs) scored an impressive, one-sided eighth round TKO over legendary six division former champion Oscar De La Hoya (39-5, 30 KOs) on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The quicker Pacquiao got off to a strong start, connecting with lead straight lefts and continually beating the Golden Boy to the punch. Oscar got untracked a bit in round five landing a good flurry, but Pacquiao regained command in the sixth and battered Oscar on the ropes in the seventh. Oscar’s left eye was swelling shut. It was all Pacquiao in round eight and Oscar’s corner stopped the fight after the eighth.Â
WBA/WBO #5 junior welterweight Victor Ortiz (23-1-1, 18 KOs) scored a second round annihilation of Jeffrey Resto (22-3, 13 KOs). The aggressive Ortiz dropped Resto twice in round one and got the stoppage at 1:19 of round two after dropping Resto for the third time. Ortiz retained his NABO title.
Super middleweight Daniel Jacobs (13-0, 12 KOs) scored a second round KO over outgunned Victor Lares (14-4, 3 KOs). A barrage of punches sent Lares to a knee where he was counted out at 2:44.
