Saturday, May 22nd the Staples Center in downtown LA will see the 4th battle between Mexican warriors Israel Vazquez (44-4, 33 KO’s) and Rafael Marquez (38-5, 34 KO’s). 2 of the 3 fights were chosen as fight of the year and the first was very memorable also.
The only reason this fight would lose some luster is the thought that both fighters left a lot in the ring during their 3 wars. Either way, it was a great day at Staples Center in the Chick Hearn Court as both fighters and all their people were in attendance to promote this big event.
Oscar de la Hoya was there as was Gary Shaw and the participants in the co-main event Abner Mares (19-0, 12 KO’s) and the champ Yonny Perez (20-0, 14 KO’s).
Both fights look to be can’t miss and it should be a welcome addition to the Staple’s tradition.
Not much of note was said during the presser but Gary Shaw probably stole the show by predicting a Marquez KO. He co-promotes RM so no surprise there but still a bold prediction and a little bit of fire for Vazquez.
Both fighters thanked everyone there and had much mutual respect for each other. That makes sense when you pounded the hell out of each other during 3 fights. The best part of the whole day may have been the announcement that tickets are priced from $25 – $250 and go on sale tomorrow at 10 am.
Showtime will be televising with a West Coast delay. If you live in the LA area don’t miss this one.

I attended the third fight. I’m tempted to attend the fourth.
