Former WBC straw weight champion Omar Niño does not hide his desperation for when he will be able to challenge the Filipino Rodel Mayol for the title but he trusts the WBC that it will be soon since he feels the organization has always supported his career.
Niño, who was crowned champ after defeating Brian Viloria, says that he has been doing some light training for the last six weeks since he expects at any moment to be
informed of the date when he will dispute the title.
“They are not going to surprise me when they tell me the fight is in two or three weeks like I expect for them to do it. I will be ready to re-conquer the title that I was stripped of three years ago,” Niño stated.
Near the end of 2006, after earning a draw against Viloria in their rematch, the Nevada State Athletic Comission allegedly found a banned substance in Niño’s urine.
“Mr. Jose Sulaiman supported me in that tragic moment of my career and I have no doubt that he still does and will continue to do so, that assures me that I will be challenging for the world title soon,” Niño (28-3-1, 211KO) concluded
