omar1Undefeated son of the legend Omar “Business Man” Chavez (17-0-1, 13 KOs) and opponent James Ventry (7-9-1, 4 KOs) pose during workouts for their upcoming six-round special attraction feature fight on Top Rank’s “Island Warriors” – Latin Fury 12 Pay Per View event on Saturday at Madison Square Garden. This will be The 19-year-old Chavez’ first fight since tragedy struck in his July 18 victory against Marco Nazareth, after which Nazareth sadly passed away. “Thank God I had and have the support of many people, critics, the press, my employers, but especially my family,” said Omar. “It shows me that we must move forward. What happened was a terrible accident, that all who practice the sport of boxing are exposed to in the ring, but I must continue my life and my career.”

He continued, “My family and I have prayed a lot for Marco and his family. Life goes on. I have matured a lot and my goals are still stronger than ever, but with a broader view of life. My dream is to become world champion, but I want to be recognized and respected, not just be a champion who won the title and then lost it in his first defense. I wish to be remembered.”

Chavez trained for the bout in Big Bear, California. It will be his fifth fight in the USA and first inside the mecca Madison Square Garden. “Carrying the name Chavez always excites the fans, but it’s also a pressure and a lot of criticism in some fights where I wasn’t good. But now I put the batteries into show the real Omar Chavez,” he stated.

This PPV doubleheader card headlines defending world champions Juan Manuel Lopez and Yuriorkis Gamboa where they take on Rogers Mtagwa and Whyber Garcia respectively. Top Rank promotes this event in association with Arena Box-Promotion and PR Best Boxing.
