No Immediate Rematch for Orlando Salido and Juanma Lopez

WBO featherweight champion Orlando “Siri” Salido will defend his belt against Mike “Machine” Oliver (24-2-0, 8 KOs) at the Multipurpose Center (CUM) in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico on July 23. The official announcement was made yesterday at a press conference.

Orlando Salido stun the boxing world when he knocking out, arguably one of the 10 best boxers in the world, Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez on Showtime by scoring an 8th round stoppage. Though many believe it was a controversial win cause the referee halt the fight too soon. Salido, to his credit, put Lopez in that tenuous position.

Though I am a bit disappointed as there is no immediate rematch, maybe one day Lopez comes back and avenges his loss to Salido, Lopez-Gamboa gets back on the slow track.

Salido vs Oliver will be televised in Mexio by TV Azteca and internationally by Fox Sports.

  1. LAXONE, MAFIA and JOHNNY I was there and you are ALL 100% correct!! Juanma was a knockout waiting to happen. He had nothing much to offer while Salido was still strong, confident knew that it was only a matter of time. I believe that Roberto Ramirez Jr, a truly competent ref, made the right call. Props to him for for his honest and non-biased call. The game could surely use more like him.

    Man, I was looking forward to the rematch with Juanma seeking revenge and Salido ready to prove that this was no fluke and that he’s just plain to tough anfd durable for JuanMa. Too bad for us fans, it probably would’ve been a great fight..

  2. JuanMa was getting rocked it would have only been a matter of time the ref did him a favor. If that beating had continued he would have dropped hard. He found out the hard way, you never take a fight lightly especially against a man that’s hungry for your belt. I wouldn’t mind seeing a part 2 to this fight sooner rather than later it’s a bummer we have to wait.

  4. If the ref let that fight continue, JaunMa would have gotten Knocked the F__k out and most know it!
