In a shocker which is sure to send shock waves throughout the boxing world, Shane Mosley (46-5, 39KO) stopped Antonio Margarito (37-6, 27KO) in the ninth round of a scheduled twelve with a barrage of right hands.  Mosley controlled the majority of the rounds, winning the majority if not all of them with a picture perfect game plan of boxing from the outside and clinching in the inside to slow down the much bigger Margarito.  Margarito never looked to be in the fight even as he withstood hard inside uppercuts and right hands from Mosley in the beginning rounds.  “Sugar” Shane Mosley is crowned as the new WBA welterweight champion.

  1. Yeah I’m thinking about buying floor or plaza 208, but so far no one that I know wants to go with me, don’t wanna go alone. Well everyone though Margarito was going to KO Mosley and we know what happened, I really think Angulo is going to demolish Mayorga but who knows lol it’s crazy out there.

  2. I will be there at ringside or in the stands. Credentials are waiting. The reporters at the press conference Saturday talked about Arce and his bad hands. They all picked Vic so I get what you are saying about Mexican fighters getting beat lately. Angulo will kill Mayorga though or so I hope.

  3. Well I’m still thinking about going, I just checked and looks like there are lots of tickets left, I do want to see DeMarco he seems like a very good prospect, but I truly think Arce will get KO and I still need to recuperate from that mental beating I got last Saturday lol, don’t really want another one, are you going to see it? got thickets already?

  4. I would be truly pissed if Izzy does not fight again. I hope he comes back as strong as ever and regains his form. I had a room of people over who did not really know him when he fought Jhonny Gonzalez and his comeback KO in that fight made the entire room Izzy fans for life. The Marquez trilogy is one of the best.
Are you going to go to Anaheim to see the fights? DeMarco is on the card, another great Tijuana fighter.

  5. Thanks for the link, I knew he had an retina operation, but I didn’t knew it was this bad. On the latest updates in Spanish part in his page his eye doctor gave him the OK and and he will keep on fighting, looks like he will be back somewhere around May or June.

Margarito needs a gooooood rest but I don’t think he got really hurt, I mean he was hurt in the fight but I think he’ll be alright, the guy can take punches but he can’t keep on taking shots like that all the time that’s for sure

  6. Izzy had a detached retina and it is rumored he may not fight again. He had an operation to correct it but his promotor is cautious. During the Arce/Darchinyian presser Frank Espinoza mentioned he has not been able to make the 4th fight yet and he is starting to think Izzy may hang them up. Not good news but he went through hell and Marquez is not scheduled to fight soon either.

  7. What do you mean by Vazquez being done?
Margarito needs a good rest, he’ll be back, but he really needs to change his strategy, he can’t be walking in through punches with faster fighters like Mosley and with Cotto if he fights him again, Mosley just put out a blue print into how to beat him, he needs to start moving, but it’s kinda hard for old fighters to change they way they box. Margarito and his camp sould have known he was not going to fight like Cotto, Mosley was to start, never leating Tony pick up momentum, holding him down and clinching after punches and never staying in the ropes.

I still don’t know if Mosley will be able to look this good against other welterweights, Marg didn’t know what to do and tough that pressure was going to break into Mosley’s. Maybe now we can have Mosley vs Pacquiao? anything can happen.

  8. Whats next for Mosley – should it be Cotto II? Does a Cotto – Margs rematch make sense now? I think Margs needs a lot of time to heal his hands, eyes, what ever hurts and then re-evaluate his career. Health comes first. Hell, Cotto may not be the same either. I heard yesterday that Izzy Vazquez may be done due to the effects of his wars!!!

  9. Mosley was the best, I saw what he was doing early in the rounds, grabbing Margarito a lot, with that he didn’t let Margarito put on that pressure and then he landed shot after shot, to quick, to sharp and to good, no doubt Margarito has a incredible chin, he was getting hit by huge shot all over the place, it was sad to see this one live, oh well, Mosley was perfect tonight.

  10. OMG what a fight Mosley put out.. My Margarito just couldn’t compare to Mosley’s quickness in the ring.
It was horrible seeing him down like that in the 8th and when the fight stopped in the 9th round.
Over all – Mosley deserves the win!
